Workshop Overview
I conducted a two-day workshop at a local university in Tripoli, North Lebanon, my second home city. Despite being one of the poorest cities on the Mediterranean due to political instability and corruption, Tripoli is a historic city with a rich cultural and architectural heritage.
Purpose & Activities
Titled “What’s the Story?”, the workshop explored semiotics and the dissonance between vision and knowledge. The focus was on pollution—specifically littering—within a religious and conservative context where cleanliness is a core value, yet civic education is often lacking.
Students were asked to develop a narrative-driven campaign to inspire their peers to stop littering on campus. The workshop was structured in three phases: an introductory lecture, a project briefing, and collaborative group work where students developed and applied their ideas.
Results & Impact:
The project sparked meaningful conversations about the city, allowing participants to feel heard and included, while gaining a deeper understanding of how effective design tools can be within their society.
